It’s amazing how a weekend spent near a beautiful body of water can do so much to improve your mood. Even though I have a lot to accomplish this week, I feel like I’m on cloud nine instead of the normal overwhelm I would feel. Anyone else feel more calm after spending time near the ocean or a lake?

Today marks 12 years of being married to my best f

Today marks 12 years of being married to my best friend and the love of my life. Life can be incredibly challenging but you make marriage easy. Thank you for making my life full of adventure, laughter, and a Sunday kind of love.

We made it to Friday! It’s been a bit of a week

We made it to Friday! It’s been a bit of a week for me so I’m going to practice some gratitude because it always helps me to remember I have so much to be thankful for.

❤️ I’m grateful that Valkyrie is feeling 100% better and the medicine and food the doctor prescribed worked like a charm for her.

🧡 I’m grateful John is enjoying his summer position of running a school!

💛 I’m grateful that the latest storm in Florida didn’t do any damage in Orlando and Tampa, where I have lots of family and friends.

💚 I’m grateful that there is a dialogue happening surrounding what’s going on in Haiti, Cuba, and South Africa. I’m grateful that so many people are educating themselves and want to help.

💙 I’m grateful that no one really uses our gym until the evening so that I can be the only person in it when I workout.

💜 I’m grateful to have two Thai restaurants within walking distance.

There is so much incredibly beautiful and breathta

There is so much incredibly beautiful and breathtaking art at @nmaahc. Art created by Black people is often overlooked at museums in favor of pieces created by white Europeans because of the white supremacy and systemic racism that runs so deep in our country. So it was amazing to see a gallery full of art that was for us, by us. Lots of this art spoke specifically to the African American experience and I love that the recurring theme was not sorrow, which is often the only way TV and movie execs want to see us on screen, but complete and absolute joy.

We had a nice little trip to NYC to see family this weekend. This was Valkyrie’s first summer trip to Brooklyn and she had such a great time getting attention from her pup cousin and human family members.

This looks like a good place to start a self-susta

This looks like a good place to start a self-sustaining farm and avoid trips to the grocery store completely. I would love to buy a ton of land, build a little house on it (preferably an English cottage but this would do just fine as well) and spend the majority of my day tending to the farm and gardens. Anyone else ready to trade in city life or the suburbs for farm life?

I used to stop journaling when I was going through

I used to stop journaling when I was going through a tough time. I was afraid of putting my truth down on paper and facing it. But that’s when you need journaling the most. It doesn’t always have to be long drawn out thoughts. Sometimes it can be a few words, a doodle, or a drawing that helps you clear your mind. Getting your thoughts out of your head and onto paper can be such a therapeutic action. The best thing about journaling is that you can do it anywhere and it doesn’t require a ton of time or practice to do it and immediately start receiving the benefits. I dropped into this shop the other day that does customized journals and has more pens, markers, and stickers than I could wrap my head around. There’s no one right way to journal so my way includes fun motivational stickers, little doodles, and lots of colors depending on my mood. Do you journal? If so, what do you think it helps you with the most? If not, what’s keeping you from starting?

Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. I saw

Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. I saw this gorgeous book cover and decided to buy the book immediately. I’m glad I did because this is the type of book you will have a hard time putting down. The world building and strong characters immediately drew me in and the story kept me guessing up until the very end. I highly suggest picking up The Gilded Ones by @namina.forna if you haven’t yet. Be sure to let me know if you love it as much as I do!
