News reports from around the country have people of all ethnic backgrounds feeling helpless to fix the current racist system that we are currently stuck in. Although the decision in Ferguson has left many of us feeling helpless, it is important to remember that our voices matter and we are capable of making change. Here are just a few things you can do to create change in our world.
Don’t Ignore It
It can be difficult to process the injustice in our country. Many people choose to completely ignore it and turn on reality TV instead. They may believe that the situation is bad but “not their problem” or hope that it goes away by ignoring it. The issue is that it won’t go away and what is currently happening in our country effects everyone. The Ferguson decision affects all of us. Get involved, get educated, and start being the change. Let’s use knowledge as our power.
Speak Up
Whenever you see injustice, speak up. Also, speak up when you are around people who are ignorant to important issues. Helping others understand why so many of us are fired up over what is happening in Ferguson and in places all over the country is an important step for making significant change.
Be Proactive in Your Community
Don’t wait for tragedy to strike in order to stand up for change. Get involved and stay involved in positive change in your community and around the world. Take action against racism in your community and get everyone you know to help you. Remember that we didn’t get to this place overnight and it will definitely take some time to eradicate racism.
