We all have them. Those days where every little thing seems to go wrong no matter how hard you try to maintain a positive attitude. The next time you find yourself stuck in the middle of a horrible day, try one (or all) of the things on this list to instantly improve your mood and outlook on life.
Laugh
If you are at work, take a few minutes to watch a hilarious video on YouTube or even a clip from one of your favorite movies. Sometimes I even go through the old photos in my phone for a good laugh. I am bound to come across a funny memory shared with friends that will put a smile on my face.
Relive your childhood
You are never too old to color in a Lisa Frank coloring book or build a sandcastle. Whatever that specific thing was that made you feel giddy as a child, go ahead and do it now.
Do something kind for someone else
Doing something kind for someone else is always a great idea because not only are you helping someone else but you are also helping yourself. There is an episode of Friends where Phoebe is on the hunt to find a truly selfless good deed, which is next to impossible because doing something good for someone else makes you feel good about yourself. So if your day isn’t going your way, take a minute to be thankful for what you have and do something nice for someone who has less. After a long, bad day I like to go through my closet and give thanks for all the clothes and accessories I am fortunate enough to make enough money to purchase. Then I take what I am not using very often and give it to someone who really needs it.
Workout
If you are in the middle of a workday, a 10 minute walk can do wonders for your mood. If not, hit the gym after work to fire up those endorphins and feel instantly better.
Listen to good music
Music always puts me in a better mood and helps me deal with whatever I am going through. I think choosing the right music for what you are dealing with is important though. It is best to always have a song in your back pocket that always makes you feel better. Strangely enough, for me that song is Lil Wayne’s “Got Money” featuring T-Pain. As soon as it comes on, my best friend and I immediately starting rapping and moving our hands “this a way and that a way”. The song itself is associated with so many happy memories for me that it is impossible not to smile when I hear it.
Hang out with friends
If your day isn’t going well, call up some of your favorite people and just spend some time together. Just spending time around people who support you and understand you will make you feel more at ease. Just talking to people who make you happy can improve your mood greatly.
Get a massage or a facial
If things are going tremendously bad, sometimes you have to break out the big guns. I have never left my favorite day spa feeling anything less than extraordinary. I normally prefer a facial with a short massage included but for those of you who carry a lot of stress in your shoulders or lower back, an hour massage may be in order. If you don’t have the time or money for a massage, consider asking a significant other or close friend for one.
