The holidays are right around the corner and many people are starting to focus on what their plans are for that amazing time of year. Although celebrating special days with friends and family is really important, the promise of doing so often makes it hard to focus on work. Some people settle on the idea of just getting through the rest of the year with the hope that they will make next year better. We still have three and a half months of 2014 though, so we should be using them to make our life amazing RIGHT NOW!
Seize the Day
Divide Up Your To Do List
It can be overwhelming to have a never ending To Do List. I always felt like I would never complete all the tasks I needed to get done and at the end of every day, I started focusing on what I didn’t get done instead of being proud of what I did accomplish. I decided that this type of negative thinking wasn’t helping me to be as happy and productive as I could be so I came up with a new system. Now I keep a Master To Do List that has all the things I need to accomplish on it but I keep it out of sight. I keep a Daily To Do List with a much more appropriate amount of tasks on it for daily use.
Get Organized
It’s not too late to get organized in 2014. With the holidays near, getting organized could mean the difference between a happy holiday season and a stressful one. I just recently rearranged my entire office and I am already finding it easier to stay organized. If you usually wait until last minute to do things for the holidays, now would be a good time to start collecting addresses for holiday cards and practicing some new dishes to bring to holiday dinners and parties (or to start taste testing what you are going to buy if cooking and baking are not your thing).
Check In With Loved Ones
Healthy relationships are vital to having a happy life. Take some time this September to check in with friends and family who you haven’t seen in a while and carve out some extra time to spend with your favorite people. Being surrounded by people who make you feel great is always a good idea and there are only so many more days in 2014 to spend time with them!
Take a Vacation
Get some R&R before the holidays are in full swing. If actually going away isn’t in your budget, why not try a staycation? John and I took one earlier this year and I couldn’t believe how relaxed and recharged I felt afterwards. If I am being honest, our staycation left me more relaxed than any of our actual out of town vacations this year.
Start Working on New Goals
People often wait until New Year’s Eve to think about what they want the next year of their life to look like. Why not start thinking about it now? I have three major goals that I would like to accomplish next year and waiting until January to start working on them will not help me at all. Next year I would like to travel to Europe, get healthy and in great shape for my best friends wedding, and see my business grow in new and exciting ways. Although these are my goals for next year, saving money, eating healthy, working out, working hard, and networking are all things I can be doing right now to make 2015 better, as well as the rest of 2014!
