Not long ago I talked about the importance of having a support group in order to succeed to your fullest potential. Below are the ideal types of people to have in your support group. Having someone like each of these, or a combination of the five, in your corner will make conquering the world that much easier.
The One Who Can Fix Anything
We all need the one friend who channels their inner Olivia Pope on a regular basis. When you are in a crisis and you don’t know what your next move is, this particular friend will know exactly what to do. They always have the best advice in every situation and they are happy to give it to a friend in need.
The One Who Gets It
Similar to The One Who Can Fix Anything, The One Who Gets It is someone you call when you have a problem. However, The One Who Gets It doesn’t specialize in advice but in listening. It’s great to have someone in your life who you can vent to but doesn’t always feel the need to give advice. It can be really nice to know that someone understands and is there to lend an ear without analyzing the situation. Sometimes you don’t really need advice but you just need to get something off of your chest.
The One Who Tells You When You Are Wrong
“It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends.” –Dumbledore
Having friends that see things from your point of view is a great feeling but what is even more important is having a friend who isn’t afraid to tell you when you are wrong. Regardless of how intellectual and levelheaded you are, we are all wrong sometimes. Having someone in your corner who isn’t afraid to tell you when that time comes is important.
The One From a Different World
Often times, creative people and entrepreneurs are stuck in their own little world. It can take a lot of focus to run a business or be an artist so sometimes, everything that is a not a part of that little world gets shut out. Having a person who reminds you that there is a world outside of photoshop and WordPress is so important. This friend might be so different from you that you sometimes wonder how you ended up as friends but then they will teach you something you knew nothing about and you will return the favor and remember why this person is such an important addition to your personal support group.
The One Who is Always There
It’s important to have that one person who you can always rely on regardless of the situation. This person will always side with you and stand next to you when no one else will. You know that this person is your number one fan and will always be there for you.
Ideally, this person will believes in you during your weak moments, celebrate you in your great moments, and will always be there for support in every moment in between. They might not understand every aspect of your life or career but that’s alright because they will support you in anything and always be there for you.
