Quite literally the view from our AirBnb home.
If given the chance, I will always choose to stay in a place that is residential over a hotel. There are those well placed hotels that are off of the beaten path and feel homey but usually, I reserve nice hotel stays for trips when I want to spend all of my time in the actual hotel. In Edinburgh, I originally didn’t plan to spend much time inside but our exceptionally beautiful AirBnb rental coupled with incredibly chilly temperatures at night lead to early days of exploring and nights cuddled inside in our gorgeous living room.
I’ve never had a desire to actually purchase a place that I’ve stayed in while traveling but now I do. If our host, Darren, were looking to sell this gem, I would be first in line to buy it! While Edinburgh is wonderful and magical all on it’s own, staying in this beautiful flat definitely made our experience even better. In fact, Edinburgh was my favorite trip of all time.
The apartment we stayed in was incredibly close to the Edinburgh Castle. The only way to be closer would have been to sleep outside the castle door. When we left our building every morning and came home every night, we were treated to a spectacular view of the castle. There’s nothing quite like walking out your front door in the morning and literally seeing a castle. I felt as if I was living in a dream.
Our kitchen was fully equipped, not to mention stunning. John and I did some shopping at a nearby market and were happy to have food on hand for snacking and early mornings. There was also a lovely table for four. My favorite part of the kitchen though was the delicious tea that Darren had left for us. John made us tea every night when we returned from our adventures and the English breakfast tea was the best I’ve ever had!
The decor in the living room was lovely and very similar to my own taste. Being a photographer, I especially loved the framed vintage camera. The record player was beautiful. The fresh flowers were perfect. The living room felt modern yet vintage and incredibly cozy.
The bathroom was the reason I booked this particular flat. I am somewhat of a germaphobe. I try not to be, but it’s challenging for me. I knew that I wanted to stay somewhere that looked as clean as a luxury hotel. When I saw the bathroom and how beautiful it appeared online, I was intrigued. Then I read the reviews that let me know what I saw was what I would get and I was sold. The shower in this flat was absolutely heavenly and comparable to that of any luxury hotel.
I absolutely loved coming home to this bedroom at the end of the day. The wardrobe was huge and held all of our belongings easily (plus there was extra bedding). The curtains were incredibly thick for those who want to keep the sun out and sleep in. However, the best part was the bed. This bed and bedding were extremely comfortable and hard to get out of in the morning.
I should also note that this AirBnb home is in the City Centre so you are walking distance to restaurants, museums, historical sites, gardens, universities, bookshops, coffee shops, and lots of magic. Also, the couch folds out into the bed as well so if you are traveling with a group, this location is still an excellent option. John and I are currently trying to convince friends to come back with us!
If you are lucky enough to find yourself heading to Edinburgh, Scotland, I am confident that you will love this Scottish gem!
