It’s been over two weeks since John and I went to Pulse to pay our respects. I still am struggling to come up with words that truly express the sadness I experienced that day. Being steps away from where the horrific tragedy occurred was emotionally heartbreaking.
I moved through the now temporary memorial slowly, taking in the outpouring of love from Orlando, the United States, and the world. It was difficult to keep the tears from spilling over.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time I have visited the site of a mass shooting. It wasn’t that long ago that I found myself in front of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church paying my respects to those lost in the Charleston shooting.
Hopefully soon we will live in a world where mass shooting sites stop being so incredibly common. Hopefully America accepts and celebrates the LGBT* community rather than just being “tolerant”. Hopefully America learns to choose love over guns.
