We all have something that we dislike about ourselves. Most of the time, the reasoning is because of something we have been told in life. It took me a long time to fully embrace my curly hair. I was often told that it was too wild, too big, etc. When I was younger, I wished for straight hair and begged my mother to permanently straightened my curls. In a world dominated by straight blonde locks, it can be hard to remember that sometimes, the thing that makes you different can also make you special. Now I love and celebrate my hair completely. I decided to take this week’s self-love portrait at the beach, where my hair is at its “worst”. Humidity, wind, and sand don’t exactly mix well with curly hair but if I can’t handle my hair at its worst, I don’t deserve it at its best, right?
If you would like to join me in my quest to use self-portraits to exercise and celebrate self-love, post your own self portrait on Saturday and use the hashtag #CharismaticSelfLove.
