Whether you are single and casually dating or have been married for years, dating is a lot of fun and very important if you want to keep a relationship fresh. Sharing new experiences and learning new things about the person you are with is always a great way to get closer.
While I love a great dining experience and a funny movie, the typical date ideas can feel pretty stale if you don’t mix it up every so often. John and I had our first date in a video game arcade and we have been going on unique dates ever since.
★ Have a picnic and watch a movie in the living room.
★ Go sledding/boating/swimming/hiking. Use the nature where you live!
★ Go camping (or if you are like me, glamping).
★ Catch a show at a local comedy club.
★ Check out your local farmers market. Many of them have free, live entertainment in addition to unique vendors.
★ Take a your at a brewery or winery.
★ Visit a chocolate factory. This is obviously the best idea ever.
★ Try cooking a new dish together.
★ Look up local live music in your area. Not only are these shows usually pretty cheap but they are often filled with incredible talent.
★ Go to a drive in (or make one at home with a projector if you have room).
★ Shop at a local book store and afterwards talk about your awesome finds over some local coffee. (This is one of my personal favorite dates!)
★ Take a pottery class together.
★ Visit a local art gallery. Don’t away go for the obvious choice…look for smaller galleries that may have more local artists and art that is really out of the norm.
★ Enjoy some live theater. You can check out Broadway Across America, local theaters in your area, or even local high schools.
★ Bowling as an adult is somehow more fun than it was as a kid. Probably because you won’t care if you are really bad it!
★ An open mic night can make for a one of a kind date night. You may even get a chance to serenade your significant other.
★ A carnival or a festival can be a fun way to make new memories (just watch out for that carnival food)!
★ Go sightseeing in your own city.
★ Have a friend create a scavenger hunt for you and your date to go on.
★ Take any class together where you are learning a new skill.
★ Volunteer for an organization or a cause that you both believe in.
