The last few years I have chosen a word of the year over a list of resolutions because I felt it would be easier to focus on one word instead of an entire list of goals. This year I am feeling incredibly goal-orientated. I love the practice of focusing my year on a particular word and working to feel that word in every aspect of my life. However, I also love a good old fashioned to do list and there is no time like the present to write out a lengthy one. Like many people, I ended the year feeling mentally and physically exhausted but some much needed family time at the end of the year has me feeling better than I have felt in long time. I survived last year and now I feel ready to take on the world. And the word.
If you have been following this blog for awhile you are familiar with my word of year practice. 2015 was about bravery. I needed to learn to stand up for myself. I needed to stop being afraid of my voice and my power.
2016 was about passion. I rediscovered why I decided to be an entrepreneur as well as why it is important to create for the sake of creation.
2017 was about confidence. In a world that tells you that 30 is the age when points a, b, and c need to be checked off of your invisible list, I needed to know that I am free to write my own life story.
I thought long and hard when trying to decide on a word of the year for 2018. This year is sure to be filled with big changes, new adventures, and a lot of growth both personally and professionally.
Explore.
–to investigate, study, or analyze : look into
-to become familiar with by testing or experimenting
– to travel over (new territory) for adventure or discovery
This year I want to explore in every sense of the word. I want to find adventure in new places, new people, and new practices. I want to discover things that are new to me…new likes and dislikes, new favorites, new things to get excited about. I want to learn constantly from others, from my surroundings, and from experience. I want to spend every single day of 2018 exploring how interesting, rewarding, and exciting life can really be.
